Chameleon learners visit construction sites during Open Doors Week

As part of Open Doors Week during 19-23 March, an initiative designed to encourage construction as a career, we were able to arrange for our learners to visit some live construction sites.

The work experience they gained is an important part of their development and we were very grateful to the construction companies who worked with us to provide this.  Our Swadlincote learners visit a site local to the centre where Strata are developing a large numbers of homes.

Our Burton Centre learners were able to visit a large construction project being undertaken by Kier Group at the Bemrose School in Derby.  Meanwhile, our Chesterfield learners visited an Engie UK construction site in Sheffield.

We hope the relationships both ourselves and our learners have forged with these construction companies will lead to a repeat of these site visits in the future.  In fact, some learners were so inspired by the site visits they enquired, under their own initiative, about returning for some further work experience on the days they are not studying at Chameleon!  We think that is wonderful, and not just a positive reflection on the construction firms who hosted us but also on ourselves and our learners.
