Level 2 NVQ Building Maintenance – CSkills

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Building Maintenance Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations qualification has been developed for delivery in a working environment; this means you need to be employed to study this qualification. It has been designed to develop and recognise your skills, knowledge and competence so that you can work in two or more of the following disciplines Carpentry and Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Tiling, Plastering, Roofing or Trowel Occupations within the construction industry or progress onto further learning.

We also offer a Training Diploma with a similar title; Level 2 Diploma in Building Maintenance Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations. The NVQ is offered to those learners who are employed and wish to confirm competence in Building Maintenance. The Training Diploma is available to those learners who have been unable to secure employment but still wish to progress in this trade area.

This qualification supports the Learner to attain enabling, fundamental and transferable practical skills with associated underpinning knowledge. Although part of an apprenticeship, this qualification is available outside of an apprenticeship where either the learner’s circumstances prevent them undertaking a full apprenticeship or where their prior skills and knowledge mean they do not require all components of the apprenticeship. In addition, industry will accept the qualification on its own as entry to a job role.

The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:

  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
  • Deliver reliable customer service

The learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in some of the following optional units:

  • Erecting and Dismantling Access/Working Platforms in the Workplace
  • Clearing the Site and Handing Over on Completion in the Workplace
  • Establishing Work Area Protection and Safety in the Workplace
  • Repairing, Replacing and Renewing Gates, Posts and Fencing in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace
  • Maintaining non-structural or structural components in the workplace
  • Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller in the Workplace
  • Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating in the Workplace
  • Hanging Standard Paper Wallcoverings in the Workplace
  • Tiling Wall and Floor Structures in the Workplace
  • Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating in the Workplace
  • Removing and Renewing Floor Screeds in the Workplace
  • Preparing Background Surfaces for Plasterwork in the Workplace
  • Applying Finishing Plaster to Background Surfaces in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Slate and Tile Roofing in the Workplace
  • Repairing Roof Sheeting and Cladding Systems in the Workplace
  • Removing and Repairing Eaves and Verge Finishings in the Workplace
  • Repairing membrane roofing systems in the workplace
  • Repairing Basic Stonemasonry Structures in the Workplace
  • Repairing and Maintaining Masonry Structures in the Workplace
This qualification is supported by federation Federation of Master Builders (FMB).If you need to obtain a CSCS/CPCS card, or simply want to be recognised in your area of expertise by gaining a qualification, this qualification is for you.

The Health and Safety CSCS test will be required to enable you to work on site.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, you must ensure that you have the potential and opportunity to successfully gain the qualification.
