Chameleon would welcome a UK skills revolution

When the Queen announced in her speech at the State Opening of Parliament yesterday that the Government is planning to overhaul the skills training sector, it certainly got our attention.

That’s because we have known for years that the UK has a huge skills shortage, especially in the construction industry.

Our Diploma courses in Plastering, Bricklaying, Wall & Floor Tiling, and Motor Vehicle Maintenance are designed to tackle this issue, and we welcome learners of all ages from 16 upwards.  We can also currently offer funded training courses to adults who are unemployed or on a low wage, but any measures that enable more even people to be able to access our services will be a huge step towards addressing the skills shortage in construction, one which must be addressed urgently if the Government is to ever meet its ambitious home building targets.

The Government are talking of a “skills revolution” targeting “local needs in sectors including construction”, and we agree that this is badly needed.

But talk is cheap, especially from politicians, so we hope that this time it is followed up with positive action.  Let’s see if they deliver.

In the meantime, if you’d like to secure a place on our funded diploma courses for the new academic year, our team are waiting to hear from you on enquiries@chameleonschoolofconstruction.co.uk or 01283 213427.
