Chameleon School of Construction set to open on Swadlincote Industrial Estate

A new business that will provide training for people wanting to find employment in the construction industry is getting ready to open. The first plastering courses from the centre based at 4A Boardman Industrial Estate, Boardman Road, Swadlincote will get underway later this month.

Jason and Angelica Duncan have set up the new enterprise as they recognised that learners are having to travel a considerable distance to get the necessary qualifications recognised by the industry. Jason himself has been teaching at Solihull and has more than 20 years experience including 5 years within the Further Education Sector and is a member of the Institute of Learning.

The new business aims to attract learners from Derby, Tamworth, Burton, Coalville as well as South Derbyshire and is being supported by a host of agencies including the Derbyshire Network and the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce.

Having moved into the new premises Angelica Duncan, said, ‘We were very confident there would be a lot of interest in our idea and so far we have been proved right. Due to our location I hope we’ll become a popular choice for those wanting formal and informal training. As the owner of another local business it has for sometime puzzled me that learners are expected to travel so far to gain skills that are in such high demand.”

“We are now working in the unit and spending a lot more of our time on the business building up to the official opening. We are still finalising plans but we hope to hold an event that will be of interest to the whole family and everyone can find out about us.”

Jason Duncan, Head of Training, Chameleon School of Construction Ltd, added, “We’ll be able to offer a wide variety of training although the emphasis will be on plastering to begin. I’ll be able to offer training in heritage plastering which is another of our strengths. Chameleon is also able to offer recognised training in floor and wall tiling.”

One of the additional things we have already planned is an introduction to DIY for Women and that has created a lot of interest. Whilst we will soon develop a reputation amongst learners and the industry I would like to think that individuals who want to improve their skills soon start to come to us.”
